Shang You Construction Wins 2026 City Engineering Quality Gold Award for the Jiancheng Trail – South Gate Plaza and East Gate Connection Project (Phase 1)

Shang You Construction is honored to announce that the Jiancheng Trail – South Gate Plaza and East Gate Connection Project (Phase 1), commissioned by the Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Kaohsiung City Government, has won the 2026 City Engineering Quality Gold Award in the Landscape Engineering category. We thank the Bureau of Cultural Affairs, the design team at MAYU architects, the supervising engineers at SENLI Engineering Consultant, Ltd., and every partner who contributed to the project.

Reconnecting Zuoying Old City

The Old City of Fengshan County in Zuoying is one of the best-preserved Qing dynasty walled cities in Taiwan. Over the years, however, roads and settlements have cut its walls into separate fragments. With support from the Ministry of Culture's "Reconstruction of Historical Scenes" program, the Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Kaohsiung City Government, launched the Jiancheng Project, with the Jiancheng Trail as its centerpiece: a walking route that traces the old city's outline and joins its separated walls back together. This phase adds an elevated walkway beside the East Gate city wall that extends to South Gate Plaza, bringing the South Gate back onto the old city's historic route.

Precision Construction Beside a National Monument

The site sits directly next to the remains of the city wall, a designated national monument, and along the daily route students take to Yongqing Elementary School. Throughout construction, the team monitored the wall for movement every day and kept the surrounding walkways open while delivering:

  • Precise steel structure control: All 40 steel structural units were pre-cambered, inspected and trial-assembled in the factory, so they could be set accurately on site, including along the South Gate section's curved alignment.
  • Integrated terrazzo-finish paving: The traditional bush-hammered terrazzo surface was cast as one piece with the structural concrete and laid out with expansion joints, keeping its traditional texture while holding up to outdoor conditions.
  • Modular railings: The grille railings were prefabricated in the factory on standardized jigs, which greatly reduced welding on site and gave the walkway clean, straight lines.

This award recognizes the team's careful work around a cultural heritage site. Shang You Construction will keep bringing the same commitment to precision and quality to every public project and cultural venue we build.
